POINTS OUT THAT THE CONVENTIONAL THEORY OF THERMAL COMFORT IN CONDITIONS CHARATERISTIC OF DWELLINGS AND OFFICES (EG, AS PUT FORWARD BY FANGER) ASSUMES STEADY STATE CONDITIONS. HOWEVER, THERMAL CONDITIONS IN BUILDINGS ARE SELDOM STEADY. REVIEWS WORK ON THERMAL COMFORT UNDERTAKEN SPECIFICALLY TO DETERMINE WHAT VARIATIONS IN INDOOR TEMPERATURE MAY BE ACCEPTABLE. FOLLOWING AN ACCOUNT OF MAN'S THERMOREGULATORY SYSTEM, PRESENTS SOME EXPERIMENTAL FINDINGS ON PERIODIC AND RAMP (OR DRIFT) VARIATION IN ROOM TEMPERATURE.
