Summary

A solar-gas/electrical solid sorption refrigerator with 1.8 m2 collection surfaces was designed and studied. The ratio between solar energy and gas flame, or electrical energy supply is automatically maintained on the total level of 1 kW. The COP of the refrigerator is near 0.44. The combination of an active carbon fibre "Busofit" + chemicals in one reactor with the porous condenser/evaporator is very useful for the design of the portable and light autonomous cooler for space and hazardous conditions (a self-regulating cooling system to remove metabolic heat from the coolant loop in a life support system used in space activity, or hazardous conditions, such as fire, etc.).
