Summary

The paper deals with the characteristics of a pneumatic conveying system of ice cubes, which is to be used with an ice storage system. Through a series of experiments, the following results were obtained: 1) ice cubes of a mean diameter of 10-11 mm can be conveyed by an air flow through a pipe of 49.7 mm in diameter; 2) a minimum proportion (5%) of ice in the ice-air mixture, under which the performance of the pneumatic conveying system surpasses that of the conventional chilled-water system, can be achieved when the mixture in the pipeline becomes a piston-type flow; 3) clogging of ice cubes in the pipeline can be broken with an air flow supplied from the side wall tube.
