A study on thermophysical characteristics of activated carbon powder/ethanol pair in adsorber.

Author(s) : MAKIMOTO N., HU B., KOYAMA S.

Summary

This study deals with thermophysical properties of a highly porous activated carbon (ACP)/ethanol pair. Effective thermal conductivity, adsorption equilibrium and kinetics are measured, and a two-dimensional analysis on a finned tube type adsorber/desorber heat exchanger is also carried out. Moreover, the results of the numerical analysis are compared with those of the experiment on performance evaluations of the finned tube type adsorber/desorber in the case of a single stage adsorption cooling system. The measured values of the effective thermal conductivity are approximately 0.24 W/(m.K) and agree with the expression proposed by Hayashi et al. The results of the measurement on the adsorption equilibrium and kinetics show that the adsorption isotherm and kinetics is expressed with the Dubinin-Astakhov equation and the liner driving force model, respectively. The results of the numerical analysis are in agreement with those of the experiment on the system.
