A three party global helium resource study.

Author(s) : CLARKE R. H., WARD N., CAI Z., et al.

Summary

With the boom in LNG, helium availability is expected to increase during the current decade. However, it is becoming clear to nuclear fusion communities, amongst others, that some time in the future helium could, once again, become a scarce element perhaps ultimately coming from air. With this in mind, three parties (UKAEA Culham Division, BOC Ltd. and the University of Cambridge) together are funding a PhD study of global helium resources and applications. By undertaking this study now it should be possible to anticipate and meet the engineering challenges that scarce helium poses.
