Summary
Air-conditioning technology of the 21st century is required to achieve a comfortable environment yet maintain high productivity within a period when both energy consumption and environmental load must stay at low levels. For this purpose, air-conditioning equipment and systems that allow significant enhancement of efficiency are needed, and the development of new air-conditioning technology considering the life cycle will be essential. Various problems need to be studied and the paper extracts the problems to be solved in the 21st century along with possible means to this end. An overview covering a long period of one century will be unfeasible, the scope of the paper is limited to 10 years.
