Summary

Fibrous cylindrical filters for liquids have relied on depth of the media or pleating for the finer meshes, in order to give adequate holding power for least pressure loss. Methods of fabrication can lead to eventual structural weakness. A new type has a fine inner layer to meet the final particle size, surrounded by graded concentric layers to provide pre-filtration.
