Summary

TWO STANDARD PRODUCTION LITHIUM-BROMIDE REFRIGERATING UNITS WITH REFRIGERATING CAPACITIES OF 4.5 AND 25 KW RESPECTIVELY) HAVE BEEN TESTED AS HEAT PUMPS. THE EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE VARIED FROM 283 TO 303 K (10 TO 30 DEG C) IN THE HYPOTHESIS OF USING, AS A HEAT SOURCE AT LOW TEMPERATURE, A PLANE SOLAR COLLECTOR ; THE GENERATOR TEMPERATURE VARIED UP TO 368 K (95 DEG C) AND THE TEMPERATURE OF HEAT UTILIZATION WAS 308, 313 AND 318 K (35, 40 AND 45 DEG C). THE AA. DRAW THE FOLLOWING CONCLUSIONS FROM THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS: 1. THE INFLUENCE OF THE GENERATOR TEMPERATURE IS RELEVANT IN DETERMINING THE HEATING CAPACITY, BUT MINOR IN DETERMINING THE COP, THIS FACT ENABLING A CONVENIENT WAY OF CONTROLLING THE HEAT OUTPUT. 2. THE COP INCREASES WITH THE EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE UNTIL A LIMITING VALUE, AFTER WHICH THE COP REMAINS CONSTANT: THE ECONOMIC UTILIZATION RANGE OF THIS HEAT PUMP ORIGINATES FROM THIS POINT. 3. THE COP OF THESE MODELS IS PS IN COMPARISON WITH COMPRESSION HEAT PUMPS: THIS CONSIDERATION APPLIES ESPECIALLY TO THE HIGHER CAPACITY MODEL. THE COMPARISON CRITERION PROPOSED BETWEEN THESE DIFFERENT KINDS OF HEAT PUMPS IS BASED ON THE CONSUMPTION OF PRIMARY THERMAL ENERGY INVOLVED. E. F.
