Summary

Adsorption behaviors of an ammonium aluminum sulfate 12-water (ammonium alum hydrate) par-ticle onto several walls having different hydrophilic characteristics have been investigated. The ad-sorption force of an ammonium alum particle onto solid walls in saturated solution of ammonium alum was directly measured by using an atomic force microscope (AFM). Hydrophilic characteris-tics of walls were evaluated from contact angle measurement. The copper without coating, with coating A, with coating B, with coating C, glass and aluminum plate were used for substrate. The adherabilities of the ammonium alum crystal onto the copper surface and the copper with coating A surface were investigated by a drop and wash experiment. From the results, it was found that the adsorption force decreases with the hydrophilic characteristics of walls. The adherability of the crystal onto the copper with coating A surface is smaller than onto the copper without coating sur-face. Thus, it was concluded that the adherability of an ammonium alum crystal decreases with hy-drophilic characteristics of wall surface.
