Advanced concept of a metal hydride solid sorption device for combined heating and air-conditioning.

Summary

The use of thermally driven solid sorption devices can contribute significantly to an environmentally clean energy technology. Promising applications are the generation of medium temperature heat (with a heat pump), or of cold (with a refrigerator or an air conditioner) or their simultaneous generation, by using a high temperature heat source. Various design schemes of metal hydride devices for combined heating and air-conditioning have been investigated, viz. single-stage and double-stage systems, double-effect systems and systems employing the multi-hydride-thermal wave principle. The latter one seems to be the most promising.
