Novel concept of a metal hydride heat pump.

Author(s) : WILLERS E., GROLL M.

Summary

A multi-hydride-thermal-wave system for simultaneous heating and cooling employing nine different metal hydrides was designed, and a test rig for 0.5 to 1 kilowatt cooling power output was built. It is operated in its basic function with 4 reactor modules, 4 heat exchangers and one reversible 2-channel proportionating pump. The driving temperature is in the range of 240 deg C, while useful heat at 80 and 60 deg C and useful cold of about 4 deg C are generated simultaneously. The COP is in the range of 0.6 for cooling and 1.6 for heating.
