Summary

This article presents the Italian translation of an article published in the IIR Bulletin (see reference 1997-0765). The paper presents a series of case studies that show in what direction refrigerating compressors are heading. For centrifugal compressors, modelling is used for design, testing and manufacturing, and modifications have been made in the areas of performance level and fluid substitution. For scroll compressors, innovations have been made in side valves and in balancing gas forces. For twin-screw compressors, new developments include new profiles and ceramic ball bearings; for single-screw compressors, they include the Zimmern machine, which balances out axial and radial forces. In piston compressors, plastic is increasingly used for valve plates and rings. Much hope has been placed in the use of electronic control of speed and thus of charge. Other noteworthy developments deal with research on acoustic compressors, water and air cycles, and advances in electronic expansion valves.
