Summary

The aim of the paper is the analysis of a control strategy for a dry-expansion refrigerating plant in which a variable-speed compressor and an electrically operated expansion valve are used. The controlled variables are the room temperature and the superheat at the evaporator exit. There is only one manipulated variable, i.e. the refrigerant flow rate. By using a mathematical model of the refrigerating plant, the performance of the controlled system was investigated. The results of the simulation show that the interacting control of the room temperature and the refrigerant superheat can be accepted from a practical point of view, but certainly does not represent the optimal solution.
