Summary

In the paper, the savings in computational time, arising from the approximation of the equivalent wall, is evaluated for 45 typical walls with the layer numbers ranging from 3 to 7, with reference to a calculation procedure based on finite differences in the explicit formulation. The overall savings result from a combined decrease in the number of space and time intervals needed for an assigned accuracy and vary roughly from 50 to 95%, as a function of the number layers.
