RESEARCH IS CARRIED OUT ON DUAL DUCT VENTILATING SYSTEMS WITHOUT CHILLERS: ON ONE HAND, NIGHT-TIME COLD STORAGE BY VENTILATION MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO REDUCE DAYTIME PEAK LOADS ; ON THE OTHER HAND, REFRIGERATION IS PRODUCED BY ADIABATIC HUMIDIFICATION OF THE EXHAUST AIR AND ITS HEAT EXCHANGE WITH FRESH AIR. THE FIRST STEP OF THE STUDY IS THE QUANTIFYING, BY DIGITAL SIMULATION, OF THE EFFICIENCY OF THESE SYSTEMS AND OF THEIR CONTROL. A COMFORT CRITERION IS ALSO DEFINED, WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE TOCLASSIFY THE DIFFERENT TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE COMPATIBILITY OF THE TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR HEATING AND COOLING IS EXAMINED, AND PARTICULARLY, THE PERFORMANCE OF AIR TERMINALS, CONTROL, AND OCCUPANT COMFORT (AIR FLOW RATE AND GRADIENT). MOREOVER, DURING THE 1988 SUMMER, THE INDIRECT EVAPORATIVE COOLING SYSTEM WAS TESTED ON AN EXPERIMENTAL SITE, WHICH MADE IT POSSIBLE TO CHECK THE SIMULATION RESULTS.
