Summary
The paper gives a brief historical background on the use of underground facilities as temporary shelters or residence for an extended period of time with an emphasis on military installations for special purposes. One specific underground military facility, built during the Cold War, is described with accent on its technical systems: air conditioning, alternatives for electricity supply and fire fighting. Description of air conditioning and related technical systems is given in detail with the structure, elements and basic principles of functioning. Additionally, potential of this and other similar facilities is mentioned in regards of design, development and improvement of modern air conditioning installation of underground facilities.
