Summary

Pneumatic devices, used in HVAC&R control, require clean, dry air at correct pressures to operate satisfactorily. These devices contain filters, orifices, nozzles and valve mechanisms that are affected by the combination of oil, dirt and water. Devices that contain small orifices, as small as 0.002 inch diameter, are the most susceptible. Oil, when mixed with fine dirt particles, causes a build-up which is especially harmful to many pneumatic devices. Water, or condensation, causes corrosion and affects filter performance.
