THIS ARTICLE IS MERELY A REVIEW OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF AIR TERMINAL DEVICES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND IN USE FOR CONSTANT VOLUME AND VARIABLE AIR VOLUME SYSTEMS. FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE ARTICLE A TERMINAL IS UNDERSTOOD TO MEAN A DEVICE THAT DOES ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING TO THE AIR SUPPLIED TO THE CONDITIONED SPACE: CONTROLS ITS TEMPERATURE, VELOCITY AND VOLUME ; MIXES AIR STREAMS OF DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES AND / OR HUMIDITIES (I.E. DUAL DUCT MIXING BOXES) ; MIXES HIGH VELOCITY TREATED PRIMARY AIR WITH INDUCED AIR FROM EITHER THECONDITIONED SPACE OR FROM THE CEILING PLENUM (I.E. INDUCTION UNITS). WHILE VARIABLE AIR VOLUME SYSTEMS ARE USED MORE OFTEN TODAY THAN THEY WERE A FEW YEARS AGO, CONSTANT VOLUME SYSTEMS ARE STILL USED. CONSTANT VOLUME SYSTEMS MAY BE CONVERTED TO VARIABLE VOLUME SYSTEMS. E.W.S.
