Type of article: Article

Summary

The paper deals with problems related to preserving valuable pictures, wall paintings, surface gildings, premises and other diverse components of decorated interiors in massive historical buildings. The analysis of the role of both interior air temperature and humidity proves the important role of thermodynamical equilibrium which is represented by sorption isotherms of diverse materials taking part. On the other side, however, the thermal inertia of the construction of the massive building has to be considered. The paper explains the relation between indoor and outdoor temperature and between indoor temperature and relative humidity. A case study is presented.
