AIRS pulse tube cryocooler system.

Summary

The TRW AIRS cooler system incorporates redundant pulse tube cryocoolers to control the temperature of the Atmospheric Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AIRS) Instrument infrared focal plane array. Each of the standby redundant cryocoolers consists of a compressor and split pulse tube cold head controlled by its own cooler electronics and integrated onto a structure that mates with the AIRS instrument. The paper describes the AIRS flight cooler system and its subsystems.
