AMBIENT GRAVITY AIR FLOW PREVENTS FREEZER FLOOR HEAVING.

Summary

ADDITIONAL INSULATION DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE HEAVING, ADDITIONAL HEAT MUST BE ADDED. VARIOUS METHODS WERE USED SUCH AS ELECTRICAL HEATING, GRID PIPING, HEATERS AND PUMPS CIRCULATING VARIOUS KINDS OF LIQUIDS. TWO TYPES OF UNDERFLOOR VENTILATION WERE USED ; ONE USING BLOWER FANS. THIS PAPER DISCUSSES A GRAVITY AIR SYSTEM FOR UNDER SLAB HEATING. THE SALIENT POINTS ARE THE IMPORTANCE OF SUBGRADE COMPACTION, TO ELIMINATE MOISTURE ACCUMULATION, THUS PREVENTING ICE LENS GROWTH, WHICH IS THE MAIN HEAVING FORCE. AMBIENT ENERGY BECOMES THE PREFERABLE HEAT SOURCE AS UTILITY RATES SPIRAL.
