An ammonia test plant was built, in which concepts for automatic oil return, liquid flow control and distribution in various evaporator types were investigated. In the paper, results and experiences from the test plant are presented. The main subjects are as follows: the potential for stable and efficient evaporator operation through use of low-pressure receiver systems, design of low-pressure receiver systems, and oil return.
