Ammonia-water absorption heat pumps with membrane absorber.

Summary
Today, membrane technology plays an important role in water and waste water purification systems and also in medical applications like artificial lungs and dialysis equipment. In this paper, the authors present a project in which they try to introduce the benefits of membrane technology on ammonia-water absorption chillers. Some major components like absorber, desorber, and rectification column may be substituted by components that use membrane contactors. These membrane contactors are made by polymers that will be easier manufactured and cheaper in price than the conventional components in an absorption chiller. In lab scale tests the performance of membrane absorbers will be compared to that of plate absorbers and with simulation results. In this paper the test rig is presented.
