An approach to determine thermal properties of phase-change materials for a cool storage system.

Author(s) : FANG G., YANG F., ZHANG M., et al.

Summary

This paper presents an experimental apparatus and a simple approach to determine thermal properties of phase change materials (PCM) for cool storage system. The thermal properties of the PCM can be fairly achieved by using this experimental apparatus. The freezing temperature of the PCM measured is 6.3°C, and the heat of fusion of the PCM is 103.43 kJ/kg. The measurement results are compared with the experimental data by using the differential scanning calorimeter, and the heat of fusion of the PCM is accurate within 7.2%. The results indicate that the simple measurement approach can meet the requirement of engineering application for determining thermal properties of PCM.
