Summary

The system effect resulting from the interaction of flow resistances immediately upstream and downstream of an axial flow fan installation is evaluated. The diameter of the fan inlet shroud or casing investigated is 1542 mm. An inlet grid is located at a fixed distance upstream of the fan rotor. A simulated fan support structure and walkway is installed at various distances downstream of the rotor. Additional tests, where the walkway is removed, are conducted to investigate the interaction between the support beams and the walkway. Three alternative methods to predict the total pressure loss coefficients are evaluated.
