Summary

Refrigerant mixtures, by well mediating between GWP reduction and heat transfer performance, are considered promising alternative refrigerants working for refrigeration and heat pump systems. In the current work, the heat transfer coefficient of the candidate mixture refrigerant of R448A was experimentally investigated inside the multiport mini-channel tube. The testing range of mass flux was from 100 to 500 kg×s-1×m-2, heat flux from 3 to 15 kW×m-2, and vapor quality from 0 to 1. The effect of mass flux, heat flux, and vapor quality on the heat transfer coefficient was examined. Additionally, the heat transfer performance between the recently proposed alternative mixture R448A and phasing-out refrigerant R410A are compared. Finally, a correlation was proposed to aid engineers in the design of a multiport mini-channel evaporator using a mixture refrigerant.
