Summary
Based on growing concerns about the global warming, technologies regarding Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) have been spotlighted. CO2 gas can be captured by CO2 hydrate which has a relatively higher dissociation enthalpy (500 kJ/kg) than that of ice (333 kJ/kg). Because of the higher dissociation enthalpy, the efficiency of heat transportation can be increased when CO2 hydrate is utilized for district cooling application. In this study, formation and dissociation processes in lab-scale CO2 hydrate refrigeration system with tetrahydrofuran(THF) based absorbent were experimented. The effects of the formation temperature and the pressure during formation process on cooling coefficient of performance (COP) and heat transfer rate at each heat exchangers are investigated. From this analysis, the hydrate frost in the heat exchanger was observed, and COP changes were measured according to the change of THF concentration and hydrate production pressure.
