An update on refrigeration piping design in New Zealand.

Author(s) : ODEY M.

Summary

New Zealand’s seismic environment makes the design and implementation of refrigeration systems challenging. This paper identifies a methodology to address this challenge and describes the key tasks and roles for each of the client, building designer, refrigeration system designer, refrigeration equipment and piping designer, pressure equipment design verifier, installation contractor, and equipment and piping inspector. The proposed method includes the adoption of the ISO Standards 817 and 5149 in lieu of AS/NZS1677 (Refrigeration Safety), the development of an IPENZ Practice Note on Refrigeration Piping Design, and revision of the Pressure Regulations and Code of Practice for Pressure Equipment by Worksafe NZ.
