Heat pipe research in Australia and New Zealand.

Summary

In the paper the authors review heat pipe research and applications in Australia and New Zealand. Applications of heat pipes to heat recovery, cooling of electronic systems, power generation and thermal control of solar systems are discussed. Basic heat transfer phenomena in heat pipes and thermosiphons, computer modelling and related experimentation are reviewed. Recent steady-state modelling of long heat pipes, and the interaction between heat pipes and boundary conditions in geothermal reservoirs are also presented. Although heat pipe research efforts have increased in recent years, heat pipes are not used on a large scale in these two countries.
