Number: pap. n. 16

Summary

Jordan had a charming climate neither very hot in summer nor very cold in winter. Amman the Capital of Jordan has a design temperature in summer 33°C and winter design temperature 2°C. In the last decade Jordan faced a notable change in the seasonal extreme temperatures where summer recorded temperature up to 45°C and winter recorded -2°C. The air conditioners showed low performance in the extreme periods and were unable to cover the required loads. In this study the local Heat Pump based air conditioners performance was studied for summer and winter periods under extreme conditions. Suggestions were stated to improve the air-conditioners performance. It has been noted that the performance of the split unit is dependable on the outside temperatures. Higher pressure differences have been recorded near the extreme temperatures which results in higher compressor work and higher energy consumption. Thus better placement of split units should be considered and better heat transfer medium could be implemented to improve the workability of the local air conditioners and reduce its energy consumption.
