Analysis of an innovative HVAC plant based on an open cycle absorption system.

Summary

A new HVAC system for an educational building is proposed and studied. This plant consists of an open cycle absorption system in which the exhausted air is treated by a liquid desiccant solution: in winter the system operates as an open cycle heat pump, while in summer it meets the latent loads. The regeneration of the desiccant is obtained in a kettle reboiler. The proposed system is analysed and compared against a traditional plant both in summer and winter mode: the primary energy saving is around 30%.
