Summary

THE PAPER STUDIES CONVECTION IN A HOMOGENEOUS ISOTROPIC LAYER SATURATED BY A BOUSSINESQ FLUID, THEN IN AN ANISOTROPIC, HOMOGENEOUS OR STRATIFIED LAYER, AND FINALLY IN ANISOTROPIC MEDIA, STRATIFIED MEDIA AND ANY HETEROGENEOUS MEDIUM. IT DEALS WITH CONVECTION AND SATURATION IN A MEDIUM SATURATED BY A REAL FLUID. THE POSSIBILITY OF APPROACHING NUMEROUS SPECIFIC CASES FROM THE RESULTS OBTAINED ON A HORIZONTAL LAYER IS STRESSED. THE EFFECTS OF THE CHANGES OF PHASE WHICH ARE NOT DEALT WITH IN THE PAPER MAY BE IMPORTANT DUE TO THE HEAT TRANSFER THEY INVOLVE AND TO THE CHANGES IN THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MEDIUM THEY MAY CAUSE.
