Summary

THIS STUDY DEALS WITH NUMERICAL RESOLUTION OF THE HEAT CONDUCTION EQUATION IN A THICK VERTICAL WALL SUBMITTED ON ONE SIDE TO A UNIFORM HEAT FLUX DENSITY, AND TO CONVECTIVE AND RADIATIVE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS. THE THREE FLOW REGIMES OF NATURAL CONVECTION ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. IT IS SHOWN THAT FOR WALLS WHERE THE RATIO, HEIGHT OVER THICKNESS, IS LARGER THAN 3, THE LONGITUDINAL CONDUCTION EFFECTS REMAIN IDENTICAL. THE PROBLEM IS THEN ENTIRELY CHARACTERISED BY ONLY FIVE PARAMETERS. SUCH A STUDY ALLOWS OPTIMAL DESIGN OF VERTICAL WALLS SUBJECT TO SOLAR RADIATION.
