Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR PREDICTING SCREW COMPRESSOR PERFORMANCE. THE MODEL OF SCREW IS BASED ON THE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS FOR PERFECT GAS. THE EFFECTS OF INTERNAL LEAKAGE, HEAT EXCHANGE BETWEEN GAS AND OIL, AND FLOW RESISTANCE AT SUCTION AND DISCHARGE PORTS ARE INCLUDED IN THE MODEL. UNIFORMLY MIXED COMPRESSIBLE TWO-PHASE FLOW OF GAS AND OIL IS ASSUMED THROUGH THE LEAKAGE PATHS, EXCEPT AT THE LOBE TIP, WHERE THE MASS FLOW IS ASSUMED TO BE SINGLE PHASE, BECAUSE INJECTED OIL FILLS UP THE CLEARANCE BY THE ACTION OF CENTRIFUGAL FORCE.
