Summary

A reversible gas heat pump with heat recovery is compared, in terms of operational costs and thermodynamic performance, with a conventional system composed of a boiler and an air conditioner and with an electric reversible heat pump. The comparisons are carried out for different climatic conditions, corresponding to those of Milan and Naples in Italy and for typical utilization profiles of residential buildings, office buildings and hospitals. In spite of its energy-saving potential, the pay-back period for the gas heat pump is judged not to be very attractive except for hospitals. E.F.
