Summary

The quality of energy exploitation can be increased by storing thermal energy under different types of conditions. This is especially important for waste heat from industrial processes, which is usually lost. This heat can be efficiently used in low-temperature heating systems. The same holds true for heat from condensing units for air-conditioning systems. One of the solutions is thermal energy storage in seasonal storage, where aquifers are one of the possibilities. Since aquifers are very large, the amount of heat that can be stored is very high. The paper gives a review of thermal energy storage methods in aquifers, describes such storage in the world with a basic mathematical description of the processes in aquifers, and presents the possibilities for use in Slovenia.
