Analytical modeling of discharge flow dynamics in scroll compressors.

Author(s) : NIETER J. J., GAGNE D. P.

Summary

Numerous models are required to accurately represent this complex dynamic process. These include the differential mass continuity and polytropic compression equations for the scroll pockets during compression and discharge, the isentropic flow equation and geometric area open for flow through the discharge port, and acoustic modelling techniques for pressure oscillations in the discharge manifold. The modelling approach is validated by comparison of the predicted compression and discharge pocket pressures with dynamic pressure measurements.
