Summary

The interest in CO2 as a medium for direct or secondary refrigerant cycles has been growing during the last years. In 1997 two conferences were devoted to the worldwide development of applications of CO2. An overview is given of the subjects discussed in both conferences. A survey is given of the chances, the threats and the challenges of the applications of CO2 systems.
