Summary

The change in electrical impedance and potassium ion leakage during cold storage, and some quantitative relations between electrical impedance and cell membrane permeability of chicory (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum) were investigated. Results showed that cell membrane permeability and the rate of potassium ion leakage increased, while electrical impedance decreased with the development of freezing injury in chicory roots. It was concluded that electrical impedance analysis can be used to estimate the freezing injury of plants.
