Summary
Considering that a telecommunication machine room needs cooling all the year round and the major load is sensible heat, the paper designs an indirect tower cooling system combining cooling tower, plate heat exchanger and air cooler. It presents the main equipments and the determination of their parameters. Taking a machine room in Harbin as an example, it calculates the annual cooling load by DeST software, and compares the energy consumption before and after retrofit. As a result, the annual energy saving potential is 40% compared with the original system and the investment payback period is 1.16 years for the indirect tower cooling system. It analyses the energy saving potential of indirect tower cooling system in 31 cities across China, and concludes that the system can save energy 15 to 40% for most cities.
