Summary

FUTURE CONTRIBUTIONS OF CRYOPRESERVATION TECHNIQUES ON CULTURE-BASED FISHERIES ARE DISCUSSED. THESE TECHNIQUES ARE SUPPOSED TO FACILITATE DEVELOPMENT IN SEED PRODUCTION, SELECTIVE BREEDING AND GENE CONSERVATION OF AQUATIC ANIMALS. IN SEED PRODUCTION, CRYOPRESERVATION OF SPERM MAKES BREEDING POSSIBLE BETWEEN MALES AND FEMALES WHOSE MATURATION SEASONS DIFFER, AND PRESERVATION OF EMBRYOS OR LARVAE FAVOURS THE CULTURE OF FOOD ORGANISMS. CRYOPRESERVATION OF SPERM CAN BE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TECHNIQUES IN SELECTIVE BREEDING. CRYOPRESERVATION OF SPERM WILL ALSO BE A USEFUL METHOD FOR GENE CONSERVATION, WHEN IT IS COMBINED WITH ARTIFICIAL ANDROGENESIS.
