Summary

Nowadays, air conditioning technology must consider two main environmental problems, i.e. climate change and ozone depletion. In Indonesia, AC consumes around 60% of commercial building’s electricity. Chilled water system usage in commercial building only needs smaller amount of primary refrigerant, so it can minimize possibility of refrigerant emission into the atmosphere. Latent heat transportation system applied in chilled-water system has opportunity to save energy. In this paper, application of some phase change materials (PCMs) in chilled water system is reported. Two kinds of PCMs are used in this study, i.e. inorganic and organic PCM. Those PCMs reduce energy consumption of compressor and increase COP of chilled water system.
