Summary

Four particular heat pumps were investigated for their energy consumption and practical implications. It turns out that, with only one exception, the electrically driven heat pumps do not use less primary energy than a high efficiency condensing boiler. The emission rate of nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide can be up to several times as high. Regarding practical aspects, there are no drawbacks to be expected, except that noise is generally too high in heat pumps.
