Automatic/dynamic water side balancing.

Summary
Hydronic circuits for heating and cooling may require flow rates through terminal units to be within 5% of the design figure, in order to get the correct performance from the terminals. Circuit flow balancing starts with the correct selection of a pump, and careful pipe sizing. Traditional final adjustment has been by regulating valves, but the flow through these will vary with pressure. Two other devices are now available for the final balancing - one has a spring-loaded sleeve valve to maintain a constant pressure across an adjustable balancing valve, and it can also be used as a servo control across a multi-terminal circuit. The other device is a spring-loaded sleeve valve, and will be preset for a single flow, which is not adjustable. A.R.T.
