Summary

This article is the Spanish translation of an article presented at the IIR-Gustav Lorentzen conference on natural working fluids, in Copenhagen, Denmark (see this issue of the Bulletin, reference 2009-0352). Information on the relevance of different ambient conditions is often required for A/C design, simulation and testing purposes. As the EU has agreed to phase out HFC-134a in mobile air-conditioning systems in new vehicle models from January 2011 and other countries in the world may follow, reliable data on the relevance of different ambient conditions for mobile a/c systems in particular is needed to allow a fair comparison of natural refrigerants e.g. R744 on the one hand and non natural alternatives on the other hand. This paper presents a model generating population and car usage weighted vehicle operating conditions (i.e. temperature, relative humidity, diffuse solar radiation) from meteorological and population density databases on a very detailed level as well as information on national vehicle type approval and data on car usage by time of day. The databases used as well as the process in which the data is amalgamated and interpolated will be discussed. Furthermore the application of the model to Europe and North America will be demonstrated. This work shows results from a study carried out for the German Association for Research on Automobile-Technique (FAT), department of the VDA.
