Summary

This paper describes the design process for a high temperature ammonia heat pump used to supply the heating system in a dairy. The low temperature heat to the heat pump is supplied by the heat dump from the refrigeration processes of dairy production. The systems are designed so that there is balance between the refrigeration heat dump and the high temperature supply. Often process heat pumps are designed to deliver heat at as high a temperature as possible, without checking if this high temperature level is actually necessary. In this study we chose to balance the heat and cold demands, and thereby optimizing energy performance.
