Summary

Binary ice is a pumpable ice slurry which is an ideal secondary refrigerant and which can be used instead of chilled water, ice water or brine as well as a replacement for directly evaporating refrigerants. Binary ice is soft and has therefore no adverse effects on pipes, pumps, valves, heat exchangers and on products which are in direct contact with binary ice. The fluid contains minute ice crystals suspended in liquid which is melt quickly and the heat extraction rate is therefore almost unlimited. This is the reason why binary ice is even more powerful than boiling refrigerants.
