Summary

This survey considers up-to-date industrial technologies employing pumpable ice slurries (known under different names, such as flow ice, binary ice, liquid ice, fluid ice, slurry-ice or pumpable-ice). The principal methods and existing engineering systems for generation of fine-crystalline ice slurries are presented. Special attention is paid to ice slurry accumulation, storage and refrigeration supply to remote users. Several leading manufacturers of ice slurry generators and related equipment are introduced. Main commercial applications of ice slurries are also outlined, along with current challenges, trends and prospects for the development of advanced ice slurry based technologies.
