BOILING FROM FINNED TUBE BUNDLES. THE EFFECT OF ENHANCED CONVECTION.

Author(s) : HAHNE E., MULLER J.

Summary

IN BUNDLES CONVECTION MAY CONSIDERABLY AFFECT THE HEAT TRANSFER FROM ONE ROW TO ANOTHER IF THE TUBES ARE SUPERIMPOSED, BUT WHEN THERE IS A STRONG PRODUCTION OF VAPOUR,CONVECTION FLOW CAN BE HINDERED. THE EFFECTS OF CONVECTION WERE STUDIED IN TESTS ON TWO SUPERIMPOSED FINNED TUBES AND WITH BUNDLES OF 18 TUBES. A LARGE INCREASE IN HEAT TRANSFER WAS OBSERVED IN INCIPIENT OR MEDIUM BOILING. FOR FULLY DEVELOPED BOILING THE EFFECTS OF CONVECTION ARE SMALLER THAN THOSE RESULTING FROM BOILING. CORRELATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR THE PREDICTION OF EXCHANGE COEFFICIENT.
