A NEW SURFACE FOR INCREASING NUCLEATE BOILING HEAT TRANSFER.

Author(s) : PALM B. E.

Summary

A NEW TYPE OF SURFACE INCREASING BOILING HEAT TRANSFER WAS STUDIED. THE SURFACE WAS STUDIED IN POOL BOILING OF OILFREE R11 AND R12 ON A SINGLE TUBE AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE AND IN THE CASE OF R12 FORCED CONVECTION IN A HORIZONTAL TUBE. SMOOTH TUBES AND TUBES WITH VARIOUS SURFACES WERE ALSO STUDIED. THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IN POOL BOILING WAS 3,000-3,500 W/M2.K. NUCLEATE BOILING APPEARED AT TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES LOWER THAN 0.3 K. IN FORCED CONVECTION, THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT RANGED BETWEEN 2,000 AND 2,500 W/M2.K FOR VAPOUR CONTENTS OF 60%. THE EFFECTS OF COMPRESSION OIL ON HEAT TRANSFER WERE ALSO STUDIED.
